Key Technologies:
-Shielding technology has been implemented that made projectile, missile, and laser weapons obsolete with regards to space combat. However, specialized Lance devices have been used to create a small hole in the shields of an opposing ship that allows opposing parties to board the enemy ship. The Lances require the rare element, Farcium, that makes them valuable and are treated carefully. They are vulnerable to shock waves which prevents one ship from depositing explosives in a shield hole created by a lance. Doing so would destroy the lance and possibly both ships.
-Huge space craft called Pathways are equipped with special engines that allow for near instant travel between distant worlds. The ships carry enormous amounts of cargo and many smaller vessels between far off planets. They are owned exclusively by the Kathu Trade Guild and their secrets are carefully guarded. Any attempts to attack or steal from a Pathfinder will get a whole solar system banned from their services, thereby cutting them off from the rest of humanity. They also use their great power to maintain their monopoly by eliminating their competitors using whatever means they see fit. Their home planet of Kathu has been self-quarantined and is the only known source of the other rare element, Quarminium.
-Computers are still used in numerous areas of life. However, the severity of the war instilled a deep distrust of computers, especially networked ones. Thus computers are limited in their control of equipment. They are necessary for many important functions such as Pathway guidance computers. Powerful computers used in artificial intelligence applications are highly guarded and networking for those computers is strictly prohibited.
